Man Turns Himself In On Charges Of Killing Local Boxer In Bridgeport

A man turned himself in after an arrest warrant charged him with killing a local boxer.

Deontae Boykin, 23, is accused of shooting 27-year-old Raymond "Goldito" Sierra outside his home in Bridgeport on Union Avenue on Thursday, Sept. 24. 

According to Sierra's family, the young boxer was returning home from running errands at about 8 p.m. that evening when he was approached by a group of men before Boykin shot him in the chest. 

Police responded to reported shots fired on the 600th block of Union Avenue found members of Sierra's family members in the process of bringing him to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to reporting by the Fairfield Citizen

Boykin faces the felony charges of murder and first-degree criminal attempt at robbery, according to the Bridgeport Police Department, and is being held in custody on a $1,000,000 bond. 

"Raymond was a young man full of life who enjoyed Boxing and had invested long hours in that which he had fought in various local boxing matches and had been known as 'Hollywood,'" reads Sierra's obituary. "He had a good heart and always looked forward to spending time with the family. 

"His contagious smile earned him an additional nickname of 'Sonrisita' because he was always smiling, and he always managed to keep smiling regardless of anything. 

"Joyful as he was and regardless of the amount of things on his plate daily he managed to always stop by to see mom and spend time with her."
